Getting a G2 license is an exciting milestone for many young people, as well as being the key to a fast and easy way of getting around on your own.

With a G1 license, you can practice driving with a fully licensed driver in the car. A G2 license allows drivers to drive solo, at any time of day, and on any road in Ontario, with some restrictions. Learn more about the G2.

To get your G2, you’ll need to take the G2 road test, otherwise known as the G1 exit test. However, figuring out how to book a road test can be confusing. Here’s how you can book a test in Ontario to start driving with fewer restrictions.

To do before you book your G2 road test

Here’s what you’ll need to do before you can book the G2 license road test:

  1. Get your G1 license. You’ll need to be over 16 and pass the G1 written knowledge test, which you can take without an appointment at a DriveTest location. The G1 allows you to practice driving for one year before booking your G2 road test.
  2. Practice driving for 12 months or complete an MTO-approved driver’s ed course to book the road test in just 8 months. Find more tips on practicing for your G2. Completing an approved driver’s ed course may also make you eligible for a 10-20% discount on your auto insurance. Explore MTO-approved driver’s ed course options with Kruzee.
